Continuing the Great Harvest series, Pastor Wiryohadi shared the second part of his message on how we can prepare our hearts to receive and bear fruit from God’s Word. In this sermon, he focused on two more types of soil from Jesus’ parable of the sower—the thorny soil and the good soil.

3. Thorny Soil: A Heart Distracted by Worries and Wealth

Jesus warned about the thorny soil, where the Word of God is heard but later choked by worries of life and the deceitfulness of wealth (Matthew 13:22). Pastor Wiryohadi explained that many believers struggle to grow spiritually because they allow fear, anxiety, and material pursuits to dominate their lives.

How Can We Overcome These Distractions?

  • Faith is the key to victory – “Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.” (1 John 5:4)

  • Root yourself in Christ – “Be rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught.” (Colossians 2:7)

  • Faith grows as we live out God’s Word – The more we apply His truth, the stronger our faith becomes.

By shifting our focus from worry and wealth to faith and obedience, we can break free from the thorns that hinder our spiritual growth.

4. Good Soil: A Heart That Receives, Understands, and Multiplies

Jesus described good soil as a heart that not only hears but understands and applies God’s Word. This kind of heart produces a great harvest—30, 60, or even 100 times what was sown (Matthew 13:23).

What Determines the Size of Our Harvest?

  1. Our level of understanding – The more we understand God’s Word, the more fruit we will bear.

  2. How much we apply biblical principles – Transformation happens when we actively live out His teachings.

  3. The strength of our faith – Faith helps us endure challenges and stay rooted in God’s promises.

  4. Our love for Jesus – True devotion is expressed through worship and obedience.

A Call to Be Good Soil

Pastor Wiryohadi challenged the congregation to examine their hearts:

🌱 Are we letting worries and material desires choke our spiritual growth?

🌱 Are we deeply rooted in faith and understanding?

🌱 Are we actively applying God’s Word in our daily lives?

The size of our spiritual harvest depends on how well we prepare our hearts. Let’s choose to be good soil, allowing God’s Word to take root and transform our lives!
